Propellerheads Reason 8 Review

I thought I'd make a review of my current DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) that I use to make all of my beats, Reason 8. I will go through the pros and cons of the software, and where I think it could be in improved.

Reason 8

Reason is a DAW made by Propellerheads software, that allows for in my, the most creative workflow in a software. Everything is as a simple or complex as you want it to be.  If you want to just record some vocals or a instrument, Reason can do that with the press of a button. If you want to go deep and program synths, layer multiple effects or flip the rack around and rewire anything, Reason can do that as well.

New Features

One of the new features in Reason 8 which I use alot is the browser. The browser allows you to drag and drop audio, midi, rex files or anything into reason. You can preview sounds without opening another window. Instruments and effects can all be dragged from the browser and dropped into the rack for easy use.

Pros and Cons
Since this is a personal review and not a feature by feature comparison, I'm just going to say I love everything about reason 8. This new update added all of the features I was looking for in a DAW personally, and I've tried Ableton, FL Studio, and Sonar. The biggest upside for Reason for me is the look of the instruments and devices. They actually look like real hardware and you feel good experimenting with them especially if you come from hardware like the Mpc, sp1200 or Roland's Triton or Fantom. The Cons most people have about Reason is the fact it doesn't support VSTi's (Virtual Instruments) But they actually have their own marketplace full of Rack Extensions or Refills you can buy.

Rack Extensions and Refills

I personal like the fact that reason doesn't support 3rd party vst's like nexus 2, because it means no other producer are using my sounds unless they use reason lol. But they have a huge collection of sound banks and instruments from orchestral to pianos to crazy new synths.

To end this off I would say if your are looking to buy this as your new DAW or looking to upgrade, the browser makes this upgrade worth it, and I think you will find your workflow and creativity to be much more streamlined.
